The Daintree Discovery Centre offers visitors an opportunity to learn about and explore one of the few remaining unspoiled pockets of lowland rainforest in Far North Queensland, while at the same time protecting the fragile environment of the Daintree Rainforest. The Daintree Discovery Centre is a multi-faceted venue offering access to all levels of the rainforest from floor to the tops of canopy.
WONDER & APPRECIATE
Climb High
Climb 112 steps to the very top of the rainforest canopy. The tower has five different viewing platforms allowing access to the various levels of the rainforest.
Look Up
View the spectacular mid-canopy walkway offering access to the mid-level rainforest along with stunning views over McLean’s Creek.
Spend Time
Walk with the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Forest – just one of five exciting self-guided audio tours available at the Discovery Centre.
Interpretive Centre
Offering an interactive experience through touchscreens and interpretive displays, discover the fascinating secrets of the Daintree Rainforest.
Audio Tours
There are five self-guided walks, available in eight languages, with around four hours of Audio along with an additional Indigenous interpretation tour and children’s tour.
Guide Book
This 68-page Interpretive Guide Book is full of useful information including entertaining information on birds, frogs, reptiles, weather, and history.
Coffee Shop
Overlooking the stunning McLean’s Creek and a natural Cassowary watering hole, visitors can enjoy espresso coffees, sandwiches and sweets.
MEET THE MINI BEASTS
Did you know over 12,000 insect species can be found right here in the Daintree Rainforest? Get up close with some of the more unique invertebrates of the Daintree Rainforest with this fun and engaging exhibit. Press the light, and discover a world below the ground with Australian Tarantulas, rainforest snails, scorpions and huntsmans to capture the imagination. Or see up close the fascinating Spiny Leaf Insects and endemic Peppermint Stick Insect – there is so much to be discovered at the Interpretive Centre’s Jungle Bug exhibit.
RAINFOREST UNDERWATER WORLD
The Centre is home to Australia’s only Rainforest Freshwater Aquarium and Creek Ecology interpretive display. It offers a close-up view of some of the interesting aquatic life that inhabits the Daintree River and surrounding creeks, including Archerfish, Barramundi and Jungle Perch, as well as smaller specimens such as Rainbow fish and freshwater prawns.

Want to climb into a leafy, lush wonderland or hold 130 million years of evolution in your hand? The Daintree Discovery Centre is the door to the Daintree Rainforest, the oldest lowland tropical rainforest in the world and a magical place to visit and explore.
The Discovery Centre provides visitors to the region with the knowledge and skills to explore the 1200 square kilometre Daintree Rainforest further. Take in the live bugs, freshwater aquarium, reptile displays and more, while having plenty of fun learning, with the helpful staff just itching to share their knowledge of the rainforest and passion for its protection.

As the first stop after the Daintree River Ferry, our Cafe is the perfect place to take that well deserved coffee break. Overlooking the stunning McLean’s Creek, a natural Cassowary watering hole, visitors can enjoy espresso coffees, iced chocolates and fruit smoothies. We also serve freshly made sandwiches, slices, muffins and cakes. Why not try one of our famous Devonshire Teas – scones with Davidson’s Plum Jam and a pot of locally grown Daintree Tea or enjoy one of our Bush Tucker Tasting Plates.
